War Gals is getting re-optioned
Everyone knows about the incredible heroism of American men during World War II. What about the women left behind to keep the home fires burning? Thousands answered the call to support the great American war effort.
War Gals is a TV series that dives deep into the heart of the women who supported the war effort at home - pushing past artificial limitations that had been imposed on them up until then, while engaging in social battles for racial equality, sexual freedom, and fair treatment in the workplace.
WORLD WAR II – FIRST, SECOND & THIRD SEASONS
When three American gals (composites of real women) enter the man’s working world as a WASP pilot, a welder, and a spy, they align with ethnically-diverse women, cope with unfriendly men, perform life-threatening work, and juggle love, lust and money, as they grapple with moral dilemmas and murder.
By adapting, dramatizing, and weaving together the three award-winning historical novels by Jeane Slone, I created the pilot script and outlined the first three seasons of War Gals, as well as how it can spin-off up to present day.
Aside from women’s historical stories being very much up my alley – what prepared me for this project was researching and writing two World War II interactive museum projects produced by Showreel, now Shot Glass. They also hired me to write two Revolutionary War, and one about the Global War on Terrorism for the National Museum of the U.S. Army, which opened in August, 2021.
These pieces often involved boiling down 10, 20, 50 or more pages worth of research into an interesting and accurate 50-100 words. Even though it appeared through out the source material, one word I deliberately avoided using was “enemy.”
“The most valuable possession you can own is an open heart. The most powerful weapon you can be is an instrument of peace.” - Carlos Santana
Soul Connect Radio
Speaking of peace, some of you may be aware of the AM radio show/podcast I created about 10 years ago, intended to help listeners enjoy more inner peace for a healthier, more joyful, fulfilling life: Soul Connect Radio.
Soul Connect Radio is even more relevant today, so I’m making it available online through Anchor.fm and Spotify. There’s 14 episodes and I plan to post about one per week.
Episodes are 13-18 minutes and share down-to-earth insights, information, techniques and music. Topics include self-healing/self-care, aging gracefully, dreams, astrology, addiction, creativity and more.
Special guests include TV writer/producer, founder of L.A. Webfest, and Now Write! Screenwriting contributor, Michael Ajakwe Jr. (RIP), celebrity stylist, Lawrence Ray Parker Jr., KCRW-FM’s “Art Talk” host and darling of the Los Angeles art scene, Edward Goldman, and Dave Wakeling of English Beat.

Virtual Public Speaking
SDSU Look Magazine asked me to speak to a group of students in November about a creative career. It was an honor!
Greater Los Angeles Writers' Society (GLAWS) also invited me to appear on four virtual writers' conference panels, and to give my talk on the Coming-of-Age Genre.
Meet Debra Eckerling
On one of the GLAWS virtual panels, I enjoyed meeting Debra Eckerling.
Deb is the award-winning author of Your Goal Guide: A Roadmap for Setting, Planning and Achieving Your Goals and founder of the D*E*B METHOD, which is her system for goal-setting simplified.
She is also the charming host of the GoalChatLive and The DEB Show podcast. (Internet troubles interfered with me being a guest this month, so we are rescheduling for next month.)
Please let me know what you’re up to and your plans for this year. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
