In-Person Series and a Free Zoom Talk
Soulful Screenwriting helps you explore the soul of a screenplay, and yourself as a writer. This is an empowering interactive workshop, where we explore key dramatic narrative storytelling principles, as well as common pitfalls to avoid for a more effective screenplay. We will also do exercises from the Now Write! books.
Soulful Screenwriting is not just for screenwriters. Much of what we discuss applies to other forms of dramatic narrative, such as a play or modern novel.
LOCATION: The Film Hub

INSTRUCTOR: Laurie Lamson
With a genuine passion for empowering creativity, I’ve led numerous writing workshops and was the telecon host/moderator for International Screenwriters' Association for four years. I co-edited two Now Write! anthologies with my aunt, Sherry Ellis (who created the series) and went on to produce Now Write! Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror on my own. I’m also a produced award-winning screenwriter, and writer of additional 109 produced scripts.
Opportunities

Call for Contributors to Unique Acting Book
As producer of the audio podcast series: Anti-Heroine, and author/editor of three books in the Now Write! creative writing series mentioned above, I’m kind of an “Anthology Lady.” I love ‘bringing many voices under one roof’ and got inspired to carry on my aunt’s legacy with a unique compilation for actors, tentatively titled Now Act!
Intend to wrap it up this year, so last chance: if you or someone you know, is an actor, director, casting director or acting instructor who may be interested in contributing a short essay with an exercise/preparation, I welcome an introduction. (Don’t have to write it - we can capture what they want to share in a brief Zoom meeting.) Some topic ideas:
Scenes – Planning Motivations, Beat Changes, Blocking, etc.
Dialogue and/or Subtext
Choosing Material – Monologues & Roles
Collaboration – Working with Writers, Directors, other Actors
Working in a Specific Medium – Stage, Film, TV, Webseries, Voice Acting
Special Challenges of Film Acting – Scenes Out of Sequence/Gaps in Filming Time/Playing Without Real Actors & Environment
Audible Emerging Playwrights Fund
The Fund specifically supports the creation of original dramatic work, written with audio in mind, but theatrical in spirit. Audible is dedicated to commissioning, developing, and producing work that reflects the diversity of our members and our world. To accomplish this, Audible is committed to granting at least 50% of emerging playwright commissions to artists of color and women.
